There was a lot of bold shapes, textures & prints to seen upon the SS17 runways, & we’ve gotta admit – this season revives a hell of a lot of the styles we love! So, we’ve made a lil edit to show you our favourite, (& incidentally the hottest) ss17 trends, & also where to get the look for less via ya fave online stores! Sound like fun!? Ok, let’s do it.
RUFFLE & FLOW
Like the title suggests, dresses were all about elongated volume. Ruffles & tiers upon tiers of tulle were just about everywhere. Shoulders were generally bared to add definition to this otherwise overwhelming look, though Gucci convincingly turned the tables by keeping their shoulders strong & silhouette sleek.

Three Floor Black Ruffle High Neck Mini Dress | $548
The waist was no doubt the focal point of choice amongst designers this spring/summer, highlighted either by wide waist cinchers reminiscent of traditional Japanese obi’s, or very high slung bumbags.

The runway is never without its seasonal oddities & rebellion, & this season in particular tended to lean on inspiration from late 70’s punk – but with an overtly feminine twist that included not only frills, but the unlikely partnership with pastel pink.

The Ragged Priest Heartagram Frill Sweater Dress | $65
Marie Antoinette met Harajuku Cyber Goths at Marc Jacobs this season, who set the bar when it came to incorporating Japanese lolita influences into the spring wardrobe. But high necks, babydolls, gothic laces, & pretty pinks all made a regular appearance across the runways enough to ensure their trend status.

BABES WITH THE POWER
80’s power dressing, it’s back, & it’s still all about the shoulders! This of course is only embellished by the previously mentioned ‘cinched in waist’ trend, by creating the bold, leggy V-shaped silhouette of a woman that intends to rule the world.
Every kind of check imaginable made it’s way down the SS17 runways; from traditonal tartans, to childlike ginghams. But the one thing they all had in common was the clashing colour scheme of choice – blue & yellow, particularly paired & layered, & the bolder the shade, the better.

ALL OF THE BRIGHTS
There was nothing subtle about the SS17 colour palettes. The nude and muted spring regulars had to step aside for some blinding shades of canary yellow, fushia pink, & neon tangerine; all of which were worn head-to-toe.
If check is the pattern of the season, then vinyl is no doubt the texture. Lickable looking fabrics in the form of macs, dresses, pencil skirts, & skin tight trousers – all usually reserved for F/W, made their unexpected appearance for the warmer seasons. The rule of working this particularly difficult fabric is to keep everything else simple & understated.

Topshop Black Vinyl Trousers | $68
All shoes had a retro feel going on across the runways for spring/summer, & most of them gave a nod to 70’s & 80’s influences. Towering, chunky platforms were popular; as were, in contrast, kitten heels & pointed courts.

It’s all about looking like you’re going somewhere in the SS17 bag department. Boxy styles (extremely) large & small made into nearly every show, in the forms of traditional train cases, large weekenders, & even cigarette case styles worn across the body at Valentino.
Have fun rockin’ ya steals, babes!
